How to Get Facebook Pixel & Conversions API Access Token

23 Jan, 2026

If you’re setting up server-side tracking with Meta (Facebook) Conversions API, you’ll need an access token. This token allows your server to send events directly to Facebook, improving data accuracy and helping you track conversions even when browser-side tracking is blocked.

This guide shows you exactly where to find your access token in Meta Events Manager.

What You’ll Need

  • A Meta Business account
  • A Facebook Pixel already created
  • Access to Meta Events Manager

Step 1: Go to Meta Events Manager

Open your browser and navigate to eventsmanager.facebook.com. Log in with your Meta Business account if prompted.

Once you’re in Events Manager, click on Datasets in the left sidebar, then select the pixel/dataset you want to generate a token for.

Step 2: Open Settings

With your dataset selected, click on the Settings tab in the top navigation menu.

This is where you’ll find all the configuration options for your pixel, including the Conversions API setup.

Step 3: Select Direct Integration Method

Scroll down to the “Set up direct integration” section. You’ll see two options:

  • Set up with Dataset Quality API (Recommended) — This option includes additional metrics to help you monitor performance
  • Set up without Dataset Quality API — Basic direct integration only

Select “Set up with Dataset Quality API” for the best experience, as it gives you access to event match rate metrics and other optimization tools.

Step 4: Generate Your Access Token

Click the “Generate access token” button.

Meta will generate a unique access token for your dataset. This token will appear in a text box on the screen.

Important: Copy this token immediately and store it somewhere safe. Facebook will not store this token — once you leave the page, you won’t be able to view it again. If you lose it, you’ll need to generate a new one.

Quick Summary

  1. Go to eventsmanager.facebook.com
  2. Click Datasets → Select your pixel/dataset
  3. Click the Settings tab
  4. Scroll to “Set up direct integration”
  5. Select “Set up with Dataset Quality API”
  6. Click Generate access token
  7. Copy and save the token immediately

Where to Use This Token

Once you have your access token, you can use it in:

  • Google Tag Manager Server Container — Add it to the Facebook Conversions API tag
  • Stape Facebook CAPI — Paste it in the configuration settings
  • Custom server-side implementations — Include it in your API requests to Facebook

Important Tips

  • Save your token securely. Treat it like a password. Anyone with this token can send events to your pixel.
  • Don’t share it publicly. Never commit access tokens to public repositories or share them in emails/chats.
  • Generate a new token if compromised. If you suspect your token has been exposed, generate a new one immediately. The old token will continue working, so consider rotating tokens periodically.
  • One token per integration. It’s good practice to generate separate tokens for different integrations (e.g., one for your GTM server, one for your CRM) so you can revoke access individually if needed.

Troubleshooting

Don’t see the Generate access token button? Make sure you’ve selected a dataset (pixel) first and that you’re on the Settings tab.

Token not working? Double-check that you copied the entire token without any extra spaces. Also verify you’re using the correct Pixel ID that matches the token.

Need to regenerate a token? You can generate a new token at any time by following the same steps. Old tokens remain valid unless you explicitly revoke them in your Meta Business settings.

With your access token ready, you can now set up server-side tracking to send events directly to Meta, bypassing browser limitations and improving your conversion data accuracy.
